All students wrote reports based on primary and secondary data collected in the field. These reports were a vital part of the research cycle and all work leading up to the collection of data in the field, followed the steps in the research cycle pictured.

In preparation for the report, eventually written under examination conditions, all participants in the field study took time to process and analyse the data collected. Just how students presented their reports was a matter of their own choice, the task was to select the most effective methods to communicate the research findings. I think you have a point. There’s something to be said for a more project based assessment spread over a longer period. Unfortunately the School Certificate examination in Geography is still a pen and paper examination. Having you write a report in a limited period of time, under exam conditions, is practice for the final exam.
