2nd Annual Ray Forcier Memorial Rodeo

Slip on your boots, dust off your cowboy hat and send in the clowns...it's rodeo time!

Organizers for the second annual Ray Forcier Memorial Rodeo are gearing up for two-nights of dust-stirring action this weekend at the Willie Waggoner Arena in Benton.

Stock for the rodeo, which is sanctioned by the Louisiana Rodeo Cowboy’s Association, will be provided by the award-winning Rockin' J Rodeo Company in Ivan.

Rodeo stock contractor and producer J.E. Jorden said he's gone all out this year and promises a night of family fun activities.

“They talk about it for weeks around town when it's over,” Jorden said. “We go all out for a hometown rodeo and try to make it a big deal.”

For the past couple years, Jorden said he's managed to get the bucking bull of the year, which is a crowd favorite. This year, the 2010 bucking bull of the year, Meat Wagon, will be featured each night of the rodeo.

Jorden said rodeo fans can look forward to eight sanctioned events; Bareback Bronc Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Calf Roping, Cowgirl’s Breakaway Roping, Team Roping, Cowgirl’s Barrel Racing and Bull Riding.

Also, there will be a calf scramble for the kids and hometown barrel racing for local contestants. The home town barrel racers will be able to enter at the rodeo.

Appearing at this year’s rodeo will be rodeo comedian and barrel man Rudy Burns and Eric Simmons will be back again this year as the rodeo emcee.

The Louisiana Rodeo Cowboy’s Association (LRCA) is in its 54th year and was formed for the working cowboys and cowgirls.

“The LRCA is excited about coming back to Benton and to honor long-time LRCA friend, Ray Forcier,” Billy Nickerson, president of the LRCA, said. “The very first LRCA Finals was held at Sawyer’s arena in Benton, so it is like coming home.”

The LRCA not only has members from Louisiana, but Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida are also represented in the association.
