Why? Why are the Liberals that capture the presidential nomination of their party say things like that? Why are they so afraid to say "I'm an out and out card carrying liberal and I am proud of it!" Why do they try to hide their liberalism behind "competence" and screeds about "the past and future "?
There is a reason. There are many reasons, as a matter of fact. Liberalism did not become the laughingstock of the whole night.It took a while because he began to rule the roost policy in 1932 for Americans to understand that what was once considered an honorable philosophy had come to represent repeated failure and death in the good sense and good judgment. So the past Senator Barack Obama wants Americans to ignore will do just fine for purposes of illustration. It is - how could it not? - A simple update of why then Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis tried the same denial routine once he got the Democrats nomination in 1988.
What exactly is liberal in the past that these people want to liberalism when the spotlight's presidential campaign is going on? Dukakis was on leave for murderer Willie Horton and a disdain for the struggle for the Pledge of Allegiance, to name but two liberal ideas that Dukakis in his proclamations about competence over ideology. But what led Obama to say essentially the same thing in 2008? Why would he fear that majority voting would flee modern liberalism - and his candidacy - if they understood, as they did twenty years ago, it was really all?
