2010 Mercury Mariner - Overview - CarGurus

The Good

V6 engine and a real six-speed automatic transmission were exactly what the Mercury Mariner necessary, and all-wheel drive and impressive room of the vehicle, make 2010 a great year for a grab sample.

The Bad

Its four-cylinder engine is slightly low power and seriously unrefined, and when coupled with its gloomy interior, the Mariner '10 lacks the chops to back up his claims.

The extra money you'll spend for a Mercury Mariner 2010 on a Ford Escape or Mazda Tribute is simply not worth it, especially given the chassis is a model ahead 10 years. If you need to get one, go with the V6, and maybe even four wheel drive, depending on your climate. However, it might be better to wait for the next revision and see if enough mercury kinds of problems to a higher price of the Mariner's worth.

At a Glance

The Mercury Mariner was introduced in 2005 as an upscale sibling the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape. The chassis of the Mariner, shared by the three models, saw the duty of the Escape unchanged since 2001. In 2009, the two available engines, a four and six cylinder, has seen some impressive power and displacement increases, with four from a 153-hp 2.3-liter to a 171-hp 2.5 and the 3.0-liter six-cylinder 40 hp gains for a total of 240. Meanwhile, the archaic four-speed automatic has been replaced by a six-speed unit, improving energy efficiency. Available in base and Premium trim, the Mariner offers front-wheel drive or AWD.

Training

Upgrading to a six-speed automatic transmission is long overdue, as was the increase in power of both engines saw in 2009. With this, the base four-cylinder unit rose to a 2.5-liter 171 hp pumping. In front-wheel drive Guise, the four-cylinder has an EPA estimate of 20/28 mpg, a figure that drops to 19/25 with AWD. The engine has enough power for even all-wheel drive, and a maximum of 1500 pounds towing capacity, although it is laborious and intrusive buzzy at just so annoying at low speeds. The 240 hp 3.0-liter V6 is a great unit, with sufficient power and a maximum of 3500 pounds towing capacity. The EPA estimates put the front-wheel drive version at 18/26, while AWD trim top out at 17/24, all mated to six-speed automatic transmission. This transmission has received much acclaim for both its subtlety and its ability to quickly find the right speed to provide adequate power in a timely manner.
