On the Meaning of Freedom: Nagorno Karabakh's case

An anniversary passed recently, one that was little noticed or marked in the world. The Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh – or Artsakh, as it is known in the native Armenian – marked twenty years of independence. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 resulted in fifteen new independent states, all with seats at the United Nations.

Does independence have to be recognized by the world at large for it to have any real, tangible consequences? International law says yes. But for the people of Artsakh, for the citizens of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, there has been meaning to freedom

This September marks the twentieth anniversary of something remarkable: the end of the USSR, one of the most earth-shattering – and largely unexpected – events of the twentieth century. Among the fifteen former Soviet republics, Armenia celebrates its maturing past the teen years on the twenty-first of this month. But even before the Republic of Armenia, there was another Armenian republic next door, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic or Artsakh, as it is called in the native Armenian.

If 1991 saw the end of the USSR, 1988 saw the beginning of the end. A failing system, an untenable economy throughout that immense empire encouraged the more open recollection of historical memory and the rise of national identity, and with it – nationalism. The Armenians, a large minority in what was then Soviet Azerbaijan, already having borne the brunt of institutionalized discrimination for six decades and more, underwent turmoil in the form of massacres and deportations, hearkening back to the policies of the dying Ottoman Empire and the genocide it perpetrated during the First World War. That Azerbaijanis and Ottomans are ethnic Turkic cousins was not lost on the Armenians.

September 2011 is a remarkable anniversary month. It marks ten years since the deadly terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, an attack on the American ideal of freedom.

You have to see this:Inside Story – US stops cash flow to Pakistan ...

Though I do not watch the half-naked vulgarity known as Bollywood. You people do use our songs, you people do copy us in some if not all films and you do buy songs from us but I’d rather not get into that. Some Indian movies are good but I’d rather not waste my time like some other Pakistanis who like watching naked women jump up and down thank you.

So if a person is born in Pakistan then that person has the same rights as any other Pakistani regardless of the colour, religion, ethnic background. As for Bollywood, I believe that just because one aspect of something/someone is bad doesn’t mean that the whole thing is bad such as if FOR EXAMPLE it is famous that Hindus steal a lot. But at the same time THEY NEVER LIE then obviously I would respect them for their honesty. This was just a silly example but I hope you get my point.

@iSaiRAS123 I don’t get you. One minute you write a comment trying to represent Afghanistan when you DO NOT come from there and the next you say you hate Pakistanis n are proud of being Indian.. and then u say you have parents from Pakistan. If you would be smart then you wouldn’t generalise one whole nation and say that they think the same way. Yes, indeed it is sick the way Karachi works. The way the so-called Mohajirs are treated because really, if you’re born in Pk then u are a PAKISTANI.

You think I would kill those fools????? I only want them to know what foolishness they have shown. Ok maybe taking it to ” murder stage” was wrong but i guess I was so angry i just took it to far. And do you think i am so sad i would to type all this on youtube? No ,some idiot keeps sending me stuff about Pakistan and he won’t stop! I couldn’t help to see one of the Anti India ones and thats how i found out about this whole rivalry and the pussy crew.

@iSaiRAS123 Only God decides the fate of his people, not man. If people will be punished, they shall, but not by the hand of any man. I don’t believe that violence solves everything, it in fact makes it worse. I despise these Paki’s, but we are better than them, we are more superior, which is why we will not do anything they have done which includes murder.
