Hilarious House of Frightenstein at FanExpo | My Ghoul Friday
I was able to get away for a seminar this year. A friend Yetch companionship while he manned the table and I went with another friend to sit on a presentation by Mitchell Markowitz. You may know him better as Super Hippy or a mosquito on the House laughing Frightenstein.
Also on the panel was Victoria Price, daughter of Vincent Price.
He was in a room full of fans, all of us the pleasure to sit quietly and listen to stories about the show and especially stories of Vincent Price.
My favorite story was that Victoria Price told the first of his films, his father liked to find two teenage girls in the audience and sat quietly behind them. When the film was finished, he bent them and - this way of speaking that he monsterific - asked "So you liked the film?"
I did not know the show had a laugh track when it aired in the U.S. which is a shame. And of course, Markowitz has complained that when they leave the show on DVD, they had to change the music for the segments of psychedelic Wolfman, because they could not afford the fees (which they never paid or requested permission of origin because they were only making a season, and I thought it would not be distributed beyond Hamilton, Ontario, and neighboring towns).
After the speeches, Markowitz met with fans, signed autographs and made a personal point of shaking hands with everyone. It's sad to think he is the last living member of the show (except the guy who was in charge of throwing tennis balls at Billy Van when he was dressed as a gorilla). Perhaps even more sad that the episodes are not retained a perfect representation of the original series.
But I will always be a fan, whatever.
