All the Stuff that Never Happens
. It’s not because it’s too hard. It’s not because I couldn’t figure out a way to do it if I really wanted to. It’s because I don’t really want to do that stuff I never get around to doing. It’s not fun enough to help me get over my inertia. It’s not urgent enough to motivate me when it’s no fun. And there’s a certain degree of futility to many of the tasks. As soon as I clean the playroom the kids will just make it dirty again. The cutlery tray won’t stay clean. The books won’t stay balanced.
I’ve spent a lot of time beating myself up for not being on top of everything The playroom, un-retouched
My name is Amber. My playroom is messy, I have granola ingredients that I bought 3 months ago and still haven’t opened, and I haven’t gotten around to reconciling my bank account in the past 6 weeks. And I’m OK with that. Because my worth as a person is not measured by the state of my cutlery drawer.
How about you? What things do you never get around to? And how do you reconcile your feelings about that?
I can so relate to this. I have to admit, though, that my personality is such that I get all sorts of pleasure out of organizing the mundane. Decluttering makes me happy so, in a strange way, even though I technically don’t want to do things like that, I do get great satisfaction out of them at the same time. So I try to make sure I make time for that because it fulfills me. Yes, I realize I am strange.
I am with ya!
I did however wipe some crumbs out of my cutlery drawer, but I only did the spoon slot, lol. It’s a step But since we move so often, my goal is more often to unpack, only to end up packing again. Sometimes this means I have less mess because I clean as I unpack, but other times it means I am more messy because I have the normal schedule, PLUS unpacking, and health issues.
On top of that I now need to eliminate gluten from my diet. It’s mandatory at this point. Next step will be to eliminate dairy. So my life is crazy after finding out most chicken broth even has gluten in it! My life is too busy to cook from scratch 24/7. In seeking gluten free foods I am appalled at the junk in even “healthy” foods! Who knew so many foods were tinkered with. So I still accidentally ingest gluten due to my lack of knowledge and cross contamination and food companies lying or being completely clueless! Which means I end up sick, etc. Even b4 this gluten issue my life was full!
